Forest Genetics in North America

The North American Forest Genetics Society (NAFGS) is committed to advancing forest genetics science in North America. Its primary focus areas include tree breeding, conservation genetics, and genomics related to forest health and productivity.

The society's goals include fostering research and education in forest genetics across North America, providing a platform for information exchange in this field, and facilitating collaboration among researchers, educators, and forest managers.

The upcoming 2026 conference marks the 3rd biennial meeting of NAFGS. The inaugural event took place in Asilomar, California, in 2022, and 2026 will be hosted in Québec City, Canada.

Bridging Art and Science

As part of the conference, we have invited Justine Gagné to capture the essence of the discussions and offer an artistic interpretation that goes beyond a traditional written report. Through her work, she will bring a thoughtful and creative perspective to the ideas being shared.

She may approach you throughout the event. Please feel free to engage and be open to these interactions.

"For a long time, I believed I had to choose between art and science. Today, I understand that it is precisely at their intersection that I find my place. As both an artist and a biologist, my work bridges these two worlds, where scientific concepts become a source of visual expression.

My approach aims to make complex ideas more accessible by creating connections between research and human experience. I explore new ways of communicating science by integrating sensitivity, imagination, and reflection.

Trained in applied environmental sciences at UQAM, and later in forest sciences at Université Laval and biology at the University of Bordeaux, I have worked within several research teams. These experiences have shaped my perspective and strengthened my belief that science benefits from opening up to other forms of expression.

Today, I seek to show that scientific rigor and artistic creativity can not only coexist, but also enrich one another."
