NAFGS Abstracts Topics

We welcome abstracts from scientists at all levels and on a range of topics as they relate to forest tree genetics.

These can include:

  • Forest Genomics & Bioinformatics: Research on the structure, function, and evolution of tree genomes, supported by computational tools for analyzing large‑scale genomic, transcriptomic, and epigenomic data.

  • Tree Breeding & Phenotyping: Development of improved tree varieties using breeding strategies and precision phenotyping to measure traits such as growth, form, and stress responses.

  • Adaptation & Resilience: Study of how tree species respond to environmental change, focusing on climate adaptation, stress tolerance, and interactions with pests, pathogens, and symbionts.

  • Conservation & Restoration Genetics: Application of genetic tools to protect biodiversity, maintain adaptive potential, and guide restoration strategies for vulnerable or declining tree populations.

  • Population & Quantitative Genetics: Analysis of genetic diversity, gene flow, and trait variation within and among populations to understand evolutionary processes and predict genetic responses to selection.

  • Integration of Themes: We strongly encourage presentations that do not limit themselves to a single category but instead establish connections between multiple areas (e.g., genomics + ecology + adaptation).

  • Socio-economic Dimension and Traditional Knowledge: Presentations of projects that include socio-economic aspects (impacts on communities, management policies, forest economics) or that integrate Indigenous and local knowledge are particularly valued.

Abstract Submission
Before You Submit

Before starting the abstract submission process, please make sure you have the following information ready:

  • Co-author names and affiliations

  • Abstract title

  • Abstract text (maximum 500 words)

  • Abstract topic

  • Preferred presentation format (oral or poster)

Submission

To submit an abstract, please complete the following form:

  • Please use the same e-mail you registered with to submit your abstract.

Abstract Review & Presentation Format

The organizers reserve the right to decline abstracts that:

  • Lack scientific content or merit

  • Solely promote the availability of a resource or service

Accepted abstracts may be scheduled as:

  • Oral presentations

  • Poster presentations

⚠️Due to limited oral presentation slots, authors requesting an oral presentation should be prepared to present a poster if needed. Final format will be determined by the NAFGS organizers and Scientific Committee.

All abstracts will be published online exactly as submitted.

  • Authors are responsible for proofreading their abstract before submission.

  • Revisions and corrections may be made through the draft program.

Oral Presentation
  • Each oral presentation will be 15 minutes total, including the question period.

    • Approximately 10 minutes for the presentation

    • Approximately 5 minutes for questions

  • Presenters must strictly respect the allotted time.

  • There will be no concurrent oral presentation sessions.

  • Presentations will be grouped by theme.

Poster Presentation
  • Posters are a visual representation of your research, including photos, figures, graphs, and clear, concise text.

  • Poster presenters will share their work on Tuesday, June 16th, during the poster session.

  • Detailed instructions for poster presentations will be provided closer to the event (e.g., poster format).

Important Information for Presenters
Attendance Commitment
  • By submitting an abstract, authors agree to attend the meeting in person and present their work in the format assigned.

  • Presenting authors must complete their conference registration by April 17th, 2026 and attend the conference in person.

    • Failure to register by this date may result in cancellation of the presentation.

  • If the presenting author is unable to attend the conference due to unavoidable circumstances, we kindly ask you to designate a co-author to present instead.
