Abstract Submission Instructions
If selected for a talk or poster, the presenting author must register for and attend the conference in-person.
Abstract Submission Details
-
By submitting an abstract, you agree to attend the meeting (in person) and present your work, regardless of the format assigned (oral, speed talk, or poster). Please use the same e-mail you registered with to submit your abstract. We understand that plans sometimes change for unavoidable reasons, but we ask that if you cannot attend, you designate a co-author to present in your place.
-
Presenting authors must register for the meeting by April 1st. If you do not register by this date, your presentation may be canceled.
-
Abstracts will appear online exactly as submitted and in the printed book. The submitting author may make revisions and corrections via the draft program. All revisions must be made no later than the revision deadline of May 15th 2024. Please proofread your text carefully before you submit your abstract.
-
All accepted abstracts will be scheduled either as a full presentation, speed talk, and/or poster presentation at the discretion of the NAFGS organizers and scientific committee. Because full oral presentation requests may exceed available slots, authors should be prepared to present a speed talk and/or poster if their abstract is not selected for a full presentation.
-
Full length talks will be 20 minutes while speed talks are 10 minutes (including time for questions).
-
The organizers reserve the right to decline any submitted abstracts that lack scientific content or merit or submitted abstracts that merely announce the availability of a resource or service.
-
By attending the conference, you grant NAFGS the right to use your photograph, name, and likeness for use in NAFGS educational or promotional materials.
-
Oral presentations will be recorded and made available for on-demand viewing through public channels (following approval from each presenter).
Poster Presentation Details
What is a Research Poster?
Posters are widely used in the academic community, and most conferences include poster presentations in their program. Research posters summarize information or research concisely and attractively to help publicize it and generate discussion.
The poster is usually a mixture of a brief text mixed with tables, graphs, pictures, and other presentation formats. During the poster session on Wednesday evening, you will stand by the poster display while other participants can come and view the presentation and interact with the author.
What Makes a Good Poster?
-
Important information should be readable from about 10 feet away
-
Title is short and draws interest

-
Use of bullets, numbering, and headlines make it easy to read
-
Effective use of graphics, color and fonts
-
Consistent and clean layout
-
Includes acknowledgments, your name and institutional affiliation
Advice on Good Poster Design
https://www.animateyour.science/post/best-examples-of-scientific-posters
Answer these three questions:
-
What is the most important/interesting finding from my research project?
-
How can I visually share my research with conference attendees? Use charts, graphs, photos, images over text.
-
What kind of information can I convey during my talk that will complement my poster?
Poster size:
The size of the board is 100 cm width x 250 cm height; the suggested printed poster size is 90 cm width x 120 cm height.
What software can I use to make a poster?
PowerPoint
A popular, easy-to-use option. It is part of Microsoft Office package
Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign
Feature-rich professional software that is good for posters including lots of high-resolution images, but are more complex and expensive (Adobe Creative Suite)
Open Source Alternatives
-
OpenOffice is the free alternative to MS Office (Impress is its PowerPoint alternative).
